Four Fort Sill soldiers have been arrested and charged as a result of a home invasion in which four people were shot and the home burglarized. Pfcs Kevon McLaren, 22, Richard Daly, 24, and Claude Byrd II, 27, all face charges of conspiracy, robbery and kidnapping. Kevon McLaren, whom witnesses state fired the shots will face additional charges of Shooting With Intent to Kill and burglary. The fourth soldier, Pfc. Jared Berman, 22, is accused of aiding and abeting and is being charged as an accessory before and after the fact. All are being held in the Comanche County Jail. Kevon McLaren is being held on a $2 million bond. Daly and Byrd are being held on a $1 million bond each. Berman is being held on a $45,000 bond.

According to police records the men were visiting Heather Smith, a friend, when they informed her they were going to rob her neighbors in the apartment next door. Heather Smith has also been arrested and charged with lying to police and for being an accessory to the fact. She pleaded Not Guilty to all charges and is being held on $75,000 bond. After being told by the four men they were going to rob the neighbors, Smith decided she would go along with the plan since she was “moving out anyway”. Shortly after the early morning shooting, Heather Smith called police, claiming she had heard shots coming the neighboring apartment. When police arrived, Smith told officers that McLaren knocked on her door after the shooting, aimed the gun at her head and demanded money. She gave him $200.

The four soldiers are assigned to the 75th Fires Brigade, which Fort Sill spokesman Keith Pannell described as a field and air defense artillery unit.
